| Dana and Tom Hannon Owner |
|
Smash Wine Bar and Bistro is the brainchild of Dana Hannon, owner and hostess extraordinaire. With her unmistakable laugh and warm personality, Dana brings a lot of life and love to the atmosphere at Smash. Born and raised in Seattle, Dana graduated from the SSCC Culinary Program. After spending a lifetime working in the restaurant industry, including time at Cascadia, Schwartz Brothers’ Restaurants and Dahlia Lounge, Dana decided that she longed to open her own restaurant. In April 2006, Smash was born. Her love of fine wine, especially local Pinot Noirs, inspired her to create a place where she could share that love with others.
Dana’s husband Tom recently joined her as owner, kitchen manager and chef. Tom’s extensive restaurant background includes roles as chef at Lakewood Bar & Grill, chef for two Schwartz Brothers’ restaurants, and general manager at Claim Jumpers in Redmond. Dana and Tom met while both working for Schwartz Brothers and married in 2000. They’ve always wanted to own a restaurant together and decided this was the time to do it! Tom will take over in the kitchen and also handle menu development and day to day restaurant operations.
Dana and Tom live in Madrona where Dana enjoys cooking, movies, and laughing. Tom enjoys carpentry and welding. They both have a great appreciation for good food, and of course, great wine!

| Richard Gonzales, Jr., Wine Director and Sommelier |
|
Richard joined the team at Smash in March 2007. As Wine Director and Sommelier, he’s in charge of the extensive wine list as well as developing new wine flights, which have been extremely popular. Prior to Smash, Richard was the server/assistant sommelier at Campagne (2005-2007) and assistant sommelier at Cascadia (2002-2005). Dana met Richard when they were both working at Cascadia and hoped they would get a chance to work together again.
Richard graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle and has also passed the Level 1 Court of Master Sommeliers Course Examination. He lives in West Seattle with his two kids, Miranda and Alexander, and enjoys playing soccer and guitar.
Richard’s favorite Washington winery is Buty in and his favorite wine varietal is cabernet franc. He encourages guests to ask questions about the wines and learn as they try different things, so they can determine their own favorites. On wine, Richard says “Wine can be as easy or as difficult as you make it, drink what you enjoy and don’t be afraid to try something new”
